Each region of Ukraine has its own unique ornament, preserved for many centuries, handed down from generation to generation, depicted on embroidered shirts, tableware, household items, etc.

THE CODE OF THE NATION series of glass Christmas ornaments handmade by the Kharkiv region series was developed by Alena Mamay, who carefully thought out every millimeter of the toy and put meaning, a part of her soul and love for Ukraine into every touch of paint.

The bunch of grapes is a talisman of family and fertility. Patterns of vines and grapes symbolise a happy family life and the joy of having a child. A grape garden is a field of life where a man is a sower and a woman has the duty to grow and nurture the tree of her family. This design was used on both men's and women's shirts and, of course, on wedding and family handkerchiefs.

The poppy has been sacred in Ukraine since ancient times, and people and cattle were sown with it because they believed it had magical powers that would protect them from all evil. They also believed that after a battle in spring, the field would be covered with poppies. The delicate, trembling flower carried the indestructible memory of the family. Girls whose family had lost a member would embroider poppy patterns on their shirts with love and sadness, and wear wreaths of seven poppies on their heads, swearing to preserve and perpetuate their family.

And in this collection, we see the Alatyr flower - the basis of the universe according to our ancestors. The diamond next to this flower is a whirlwind of life, blessed by higher powers. And this life is nourished on all levels - rhombuses with dots represent the harvest and the arrival of children in the family. This sphere symbolises abundance, development and connection with the highest.

The main goal of this collection is to preserve the national code, popularise Ukrainian ornamentation and to pass this memory on to their descendants, to teach them to "read" their own true heritage, to bring back the inheritance and the strong and unbroken bond of the family.
